 Wracając do Duncansby Stacks, mieliśmy wrażenie, że miejsce zmienia się za każdym razem, gdy je odwiedzamy. Tym razem przywitało nas surowo – wzburzone morze roztrzaskujące się o strome skały, wodny pył unoszący się w powietrzu i burzowe chmury, które co jakiś czas ustępowały miejsca promieniom wschodzącego słońca. Ten kontrast sprawiał, że każda chwila była pełna dramatyzmu, jakby sama natura chciała pokazać nam swoje potężne oblicze.

Historia w skałach

Duncansby Stacks to nie tylko spektakularne formacje skalne – to świadkowie historii północnego wybrzeża Szkocji. Stoją tu od tysięcy lat, wyryte przez fale i wiatr, będąc jednymi z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych klifów w regionie Caithness. Spacerując wzdłuż klifów, nie mogliśmy oderwać wzroku od chłopca w wełnianym sweterku, który biegał po wzgórzach, nie zważając na wiatr i mgłę. Jego radość i ciekawość kontrastowały z surowością krajobrazu, przypominając, że natura potrafi zachwycać zarówno grozą, jak i dziecięcą beztroską.

Emocje i chwile

Ten wschód słońca był zupełnie inny niż poprzedni – bardziej dramatyczny, bardziej dynamiczny, pełen zmiennych świateł i nastrojów. Każda chwila była nieprzewidywalna: w jednej sekundzie morze było niemal spokojne, w następnej wzburzone, a mgły ukazywały tylko fragmenty skał i fal. Returning to Duncansby Stacks, we felt as if the place changes every time we visit. This time, it greeted us with raw power – the stormy sea smashing against sheer cliffs, spray rising into the air, and dark clouds parting occasionally to let the first rays of the sun through. The contrast made every moment dramatic, as if nature itself wanted to show its formidable face.

History carved in stone

Duncansby Stacks are more than spectacular rock formations—they are witnesses to the history of Scotland’s northern coast. Carved by wind and waves over millennia, they are among the most iconic cliffs in Caithness. They symbolize the untamed force of nature and have long served as a landmark for sailors navigating the North Sea.

On the horizon stands Muckle Skerry with its lighthouse, unwavering amidst the waves. Occasionally, when the sun pierces the mist, a rainbow appears above the lighthouse—a fleeting, magical spectacle that adds a touch of enchantment to this rugged landscape.

Some of our shots were taken with a drone—seen from above, Duncansby Stacks rise like monumental sculptures from the sea. From the air, not only the impressive formations but also the surrounding hills and coastline appear almost mystical in the morning mist.

Walking along the cliffs, we couldn’t take our eyes off the little boy in a wool sweater, running across the hills, unbothered by the wind and fog. His joy and curiosity contrasted with the harshness of the landscape, a reminder that nature can inspire both awe and pure, childlike delight.

This sunrise was completely different from our previous visit—more dramatic, more dynamic, full of shifting light and moods. Each moment was unpredictable: one second the sea seemed calm, the next it was churning, and the mist would reveal only fragments of rocks and waves.
